The SJOTB Knights of Columbus are partnering again this year with Hockessin Cub Scout Pack 959 to plant U.S. stick flags on all our Veteran's graves in our three cemeteries prior to Memorial Day. The date for the flag planting is Saturday, May 13 from 9-11 a.m. The flags will remain until Flag Day. If a flag has not been placed on the grave of a loved one, please call 302-658-7017 or email [email protected].
A modern cemetery with a traditional setting, located in the heart of the Brandywine Valley. Nestled in the midst of historic Greenville, and convenient to all points in New Castle County, Saint Joseph on the Brandywine Cemetery offers a place of peace amid the bustle of Northern Delaware.
Since its founding in 1841, Saint Joseph on the Brandywine has been a vibrant community in Northern Delaware. For over a century, the steeple of Saint Joseph on the Brandywine has been a landmark in Greenville, dominating the triangle formed by Routes 100, 141, and 52.
It is in an area adjacent to the campus of religious buildings where the cemetery is located. In 1994, while this is a premier location of all Catholic Cemeteries in Delaware, the decision was made to offer the people of the area the option of interment here at Saint Joseph on the Brandywine.
The subsequent design by Grever & Ward, Inc. of Orchard Park, New York, creates a peaceful enclave whose stateliness befits a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The pathways, monuments, plantings, and other additional environmental improvements create an atmosphere conducive to reflection and remembrance. And provision has already been made to keep the property that way forever.
The exquisitely landscaped property will eventually accommodate approximately 4,100 lots. Design standards are in place to maintain the peaceful environment of the cemetery, yet they are flexible enough to allow for various options, like double depth interment and smaller lots for cremation remains. You can even choose your marker type, including flat or upright styles.
St. Joseph on the Brandywine Parish has three cemeteries, which include one around the church and a second a short distance from the church on Barley Mill Road. Both of them are filled, with no graves available for sale.
The third is a new cemetery located directly behind the church, the church rectory, and the family center on land known as the "triangle". This land is also bounded by the Kennett Pike (Route 52) and Montchanin Road. The "new" cemetery consists of 7.8 acres, defined by 5 sections (A-E). Upright monuments, flat markers, and a section for cremation are featured.
Just as birth, growth, and change are a part of our life on earth, so is death. During our life's journey, the Church has been a consistent presence in our lives. In our parish we find a home where Baptism and Confirmation make us followers of Christ, the Eucharist provides spiritual nourishment, Matrimony blesses our home and family and the Anointing of the Sick gives spiritual healing. Therefore, it is only fitting that the Church is present with us at the time of death and grief.
Catholic cemeteries are extensions of the parish where those who worshipped and prayed together in life are laid to rest to await the resurrection of the dead at the end of the world. United as a household of faith, the departed remain part of the parish community even in death. In the spirit of Christian unity, members of all Christian denominations are also welcome.
While it is easy to put off the purchase of cemetery accommodations until the need arises, those who wait until after a death has occurred must make many important decisions alone and during a time of grief and financial uncertainty. It is far better to take a few minutes together to review your options and decide what your preferences may be.

Cemetery Clean-Up
The Cemetery clears all decorations five times a year - within a reasonable time after these five days - Christmas, Easter Sunday, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, and Father's Day. In addition, the removal of veterans' flags will begin after Flag Day, June 14th. Families are responsible and encouraged to remove items they wish to keep in advance of any clean-up. Cemetery Management reserves the right to change and alter rules whenever it deems necessary and is not responsible for items removed, lost, or stolen.
