The Advent Angel Tree is an annual ministry of St. Joseph on the Brandywine. It is an opportunity to bring the love of Christ to our neighbors in need during the Christmas season. The mission of the Advent Angel Ministry is to assist the needy by offering gifts and essentials of daily living such as food and shelter.
Under the direction of the Diocesan Catholic Youth & Adult Ministry, basketball, a winter sport, is offered for our parishioners within our faith community. Volunteer opportunities exist in compliance with Diocesan guidelines.
Volunteer or substitute to participate in the Religious Education program. Catechists are needed to work with children and teach classes. Training, materials, and support are provided. St. Joseph on the Brandywine participates in the Diocese of Wilmington Safe Environments program, For the Sake of God's Children, and is committed to the safety of the children you entrust to our care.
Volunteer sales consultants meet with families to select and/or purchase their final resting place for at-need and/or pre-need. Visit the Cemetery page.
Our parishioners collect and donate monetary and non-perishable food items which are donated to St. Catherine of Siena and Corpus Christi in an effort to provide for families in need.
Catholic Social Teaching calls us to take care of the most vulnerable members of society. St. Joseph's continues to provide a chicken meal to Emmanuel Dining Room once a month (the 11th of the month, unless the 11th is a Saturday or Sunday). Volunteers purchase and cook 24 chicken thighs and/or bring various desserts. Creates a beautiful environment for Sunday liturgy and special times reflective of the liturgical year.
This is a consultative board of appointed parishioners and supports the good governance of a parish and helps there be accountability to the diocese and to the parishioners to ensure a vibrant parish community.
Our community collects items once a month to provide relief and nourishment to all guests of the food pantry and donates these items to the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Catherine of Siena and Corpus Christi.
Plan and implement programs and activities that enable people to experience God in Church and community through faith sharing, welcoming and reaching out. For example, Lenten meals, coffees, and special event activities.
A fraternal organization for men aged 18 or older that are practicing Catholics. The Council based at SJOB performs, sponsor and support Church, and community activities in our area. It is an organization that allows members to live their faith. New members are always welcome.
Located in the family center, the library seeks to provide families with information, inspiration, and spiritual guidance through books and media.
Ministry to the Elderly
Two elder-care facilities fall under the auspices of St. Joseph on the Brandywine; Country House and Stonegates. Ministry at these facilities includes Mass, communion, and the anointing of the sick as needed and any other special events as requested.
OCIA, formerly RCIA - Catechists and sponsors provide an opportunity for unbaptized persons or those baptized in other faiths to be initiated into the Roman Catholic Church.
Function as the voice of parishioners in regard to programs needed for the spiritual good of the parish.
Create an awareness of the dignity of life through supporting various parish activities programs such as Birthright of Delaware and Mom's House. Request prayerful participation in this mission; aid in existing programs such as Birthright of Delaware and Mom's House.
The mission of the Respect Life Committee is to keep parishioners informed on all "life" issues. This is done by:
Because of the nature of this committee, meetings are scheduled monthly as needed during the school year.
The Respect Life Ministry will place a Baby Basket in the church in support of the Basket for Babies during the months of February, May, and October.
In response to the gospel challenge to stand in solidarity with all in need, we will prayerfully honor each person's right to a decent life; we will, as feasible, support anyone in social or economic crisis to enable that person to move toward greater social and economic stability.
